About Us

A little bit about me…

My name is Jennifer Burkhart and I am the owner of a small business, Cookie Creatives by Jennifer, which specializes in custom sugar cookie favors.  Growing up I was always creative and dreamed of one day owning my own business.  This led me to major in Marketing at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst where I met my husband Justin.  He was actually the person who introduced me to cake/cookie decorating.  I happened to mention to him that I had always wanted to try cake decorating and for our first Christmas together he gave me supplies and a gift certificate to take the Wilton decorating classes.  It turned out that I loved cake decorating and after taking all three classes I began to experiment on my own.  I found that I really enjoyed working with royal icing and this led me to try my hand at decorated sugar cookies.  My first big test came when I decided to make over 100 cookie favors for our wedding in June of 2007.  I knew that if I still enjoyed making and decorating cookies while under the stress all brides feel the week before their weddings then I really loved it.  After we were married I moved to the Boston area where Justin was already living/working.  I had to leave my job when I moved and Justin encouraged me to take some time before I went back to work to try to get my cookie business up and running.  I was lucky enough to work for Michelle Bohigian, a nationally known cake artist, last year.  We met when she created the cake for our wedding and I took a class from her in gum-paste.  Working for her was a wonderful experience and I am so lucky to have her as a mentor.  I am now working on my cookies full-time and I occasionally get to help Michelle with deliveries.  I am incredibly blessed that I have the support of my family to be able to do what I love.  It is extremely gratifying to help clients come up with the perfect cookies for their events.  I hope that my passion for what I do is visible in my work.  2009 has been a great year of “firsts” including the first published article about Cookie Creatives, and the opening of our first shop/design studio.
