Dreidel Hanukkah Cookie Collection

Holiday Design Inspiration
Cookies, Design Studio, Miscellaneous

This year I am so excited to finally have my own workspace to decorate with all sorts of holiday goodness!  For some reason the line from the poem The Night Before Christmas, “while visions of sugarplums danced in their heads”, always makes me think of a beautiful boutique filled with pastel sweets and smelling of sugar.  Along this line of thought I imagine beautiful trees made of Parisian macaroons & meringues, fluffy piles of homemade marshmallows, and sparkly snowflake cookies hanging on silver branches.  Although I’m sure that my shop will not end up looking quite like the picture in my head I’m really excited to start transforming it in my spare time.  I thought I’d share some of my sweet inspiration with you…

Macaroon

The store pictures are from the famous Laduree in Paris.  The macaroons and macaroon trees are from Bobbette & Belle, and the beautiful dessert displays are from Amy Atlas.  So inspiring!

My Kate Parker Wedding – Revolutionizing How Weddings Are Planned
Mentions, Miscellaneous, Weddings

I’m SO excited to announce that we are joining the My Kate Parker Wedding family!  My Kate Parker Wedding is a new online wedding resource launching in January 2010 which will give couples a custom-tailored wedding planning experience by matching them with pre-qualified vendors in their state and price range.  I cannot tell you how much I wish that this site had been around when Justin and I were planning our wedding three years ago!  I just received my vendor log-in last night and have had the chance to browse around the site and see some of the truly unique features.  I think that one of my favorite features is the inspiration boards.  Because of the extensive tagging by vendors each inspiration board you see as will be comprised of inspiration in your state and budget!  So much better than searching everywhere on the web for inspiration and then finding some you love but not being able to find out where to actaully get what you’re seeing.  As a vendor I am also super excited for the fact that we will be able to upload current content as often as we would like and also be able to upload expert advice, pictures, videos, and share blog posts.

When I was working for Michelle from Something Sweet by Michelle, I had the opportunity to see some of Kate’s amazing wedding design and floral work first hand.  I’m so glad that she is taking her experience working with couples to create their special days and using it to create a web site that will help even more couples have the perfect event.  I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to be a part of something so unique and new.  But, enough about my opinions, check out myKPW for yourself at:

I can’t wait for January!!

I thought that I’d leave you with some pictures of Kate’s beautiful design work…

Andrew & Laurie’s Engagement Celebration
Miscellaneous

My brother Andrew recently got engaged to his girlfriend Laurie and my family decided to have an intimate dinner to celebrate.  My parents cooked the meal and I took care of hors d’oeuvres, dessert, and decorations.  I love doing crafts and throwing parties so I was really excited to help my parents.  We chose a color palette of white, turquoise, chocolate brown, and silver for the decor and paper products.  I made all of the menus and signs in Photoshop with a little help from Justin.  I also had a custom rubber stamp made of their initials to stamp in brown on the cocktail napkins.  For the flowers I decided to go with white roses arranged in small square vases which had turquoise raffia wrapped around them.  We used lots of candles for intimate lighting throughout the kitchen and on the dining table.

Andrew & Laurie's Engagement Party 1

We had several different options for hors d’oeuvres including arancini bites w/fontina cheese, crab cakes, and prosciutto wrapped shrimp.  I especially loved the shrimp which turned out to be a surprisingly easy recipe.  For dinner we had a mixed greens salad, a prime rib roast,  roasted winter squash, and sea salt baked potatoes.   For dessert I made a fudgy four layer chocolate cake with chocolate truffle mousse and a turquoise colored Grand Marnier butter-cream.  I decided not to share any pictures of the cake because although it tasted delicious it didn’t turn out quite as I had planned and was not particularly attractive.  I had plans to make a beautiful cake with sugar flowers earlier in the week but as usual work got busy so I ended up having to compromise.

Andrew & Laurie's Engagement Party 2

Congratulations again to my brother and Laurie…we can’t wait for the wedding!  Also, I hope to post the recipe for the prosciutto wrapped shrimp w/ balsamic reduction soon.
